How do you negotiate with your landlord? Is it something your students are used to do? When it comes to getting better living conditions, being prepared for the discussion is needed.
With this activity, your students will get in the situation of negotiating with a landlord in a foreign language, so when they have to do it in real life they will know what is actually happening and how to react.
You can create more role cards with different problems or interests, and come up with funny new twists to spice up the conversations. Then they’ll have to present the agreement they reached to the rest of the class, who will judge whether they would sign it or not.

Instructions for this exercise
Divide the class in groups of three. Each student in the group gets a role card: either Tenant A, Tenant B, or the landlord.
Each person has a specific problem to discuss, and they have 10-15 minutes to reach an agreement that satisfies everyone.
When time is up, each group has to present their agreement to the rest and they have to vote for the best solution.
Tip: Halfway through the conversation you can add an unexpected event: “The plumber is unavailable for 2 weeks”, “Next month the building will go through renovations”.

Miten neuvottelet vuokranantajasi kanssa? Onko neuvotteleminen opiskelijoille tuttua? Kun tavoitteena on saada paremmat asumisolosuhteet, on tärkeää valmistautua neuvotteluihin.

Wie verhandelt man mit dem/der Vermieter:in? Sind Ihre Studierenden daran gewöhnt? Wenn es darum geht, bessere Wohnbedingungen zu erreichen, ist es am besten, gut auf das Gespräch vorbereitet zu sein.
Bei dieser Übung versetzen sich Ihre Schüler:innen in die Situation, in einer Fremdsprache mit einem Vermieter zu verhandeln, sodass sie, wenn sie dies im wirklichen Leben tun müssen, wissen, was tatsächlich vor sich geht und wie sie reagieren sollen.
Ihr könnt weitere Rollenkarten mit unterschiedlichen Problemen oder Interessen erstellen und euch lustige neue Wendungen ausdenken, um die Gespräche aufzupeppen. Anschließend müssen die Schüler:innen die von ihnen erzielte Einigung dem Rest der Klasse vorstellen, die dann beurteilt, ob sie diese unterzeichnen würden oder nicht.

Anleitung für diese Übung
Teile die Klasse in Dreiergruppen auf. Jede:r Schüler:in in der Gruppe erhält eine Rollenkarte: entweder Mieter:in A, Mieter:in B oder Vermieter:in.
Jede Person hat ein bestimmtes Problem zu besprechen, und sie haben 10 bis 15 Minuten Zeit, um eine Einigung zu erzielen, mit der alle zufrieden sind.
Wenn die Zeit abgelaufen ist, muss jede Gruppe den anderen ihre Vereinbarung vorstellen, und es muss über die beste Lösung abgestimmt werden.
Tipp: In der Mitte des Gesprächs kannst du ein unerwartetes Ereignis hinzufügen: „Der Klempner ist zwei Wochen lang nicht verfügbar.“, „Nächsten Monat wird es Renovierungsarbeiten geben.“
