The nature game

Can you name three different tree species? Do you know what kind of berries grow in the forest? And are you familiar with forest animals? Grab your game pieces and join us on a nature trail!

This nature-themed game encourages students to discuss the natural world and explore their environment.

At the same time, students reflect on what they know about local nature and how to behave in the wild. This exercise is suitable for students who have already practiced nature-related vocabulary.

The question cards and the game board for this exercise can be downloaded from our material bank. You might also want to try creating digital question cards (using tools like Wordwall or PowerPoint) by copying the questions onto your chosen platform.

Exercise for a small group

Learning objectives:

  • Practising vocabulary
  • Reacting spontaneously
  • Getting to know the local environment

Instructions for this exercise

1. Preparations

Print (and laminate) the game board and the question cards – every team will need it’s own set. The cards have two different themes: the green cards contain questions about nature while the blue cards are related to the flow of the game. Divide the students into groups of 3-5 and explain the idea of the game.

2. Explaining the game

Every group gets a game board and a stack of cards as well as a dice and pawns which they will use to move around the game board.

One player at a time rolls the dice and moves forward on the board the number of steps indicated by the dice. After that, they draw a card, read the question from the card, and try to answer it.

Other team members listen and discuss together whether they accept the answer. If the active player can’t answer the question, the other team members can try to answer it and discuss the answer together.

The player who reaches the goal first wins the game.

Luontopeli

Oppimistavoitteet:

  • Sanastoharjoittelu
  • Spontaani reagointi
  • Paikalliseen ympäristöön tutustuminen

Harjoituksen ohjeet

1. Valmistelu

Tulosta (ja laminoi) pelilauta ja kysymyskortit – jokainen ryhmä tarvitsee omat. Kortteja on kahta erilaista teemaa: vihreät pelikortit sisältävät kysymyksiä luonnosta ja ympäristöstä. Siniset pelikortit liittyvät pelinkulkuun. Jaa opiskelijat 3-5 hengen ryhmiin. Selitä pelin idea.

2. Ohjeistus opiskelijoille

  • Fragen stellen
