Do your students know what to expect when going to the doctor’s? Can they tell someone what’s wrong with them and get help?
With this exercise telling what’s wrong won’t be an extra burden when they need to get help. They will act as patients or doctors, practice all the needed vocabulary and have fun with the twists of the white cards!
The pair that completes more challenges wins the round. They can have a go in turns while the others watch and learn (or add more twists) or do it all at the same time while you go around the classroom checking how they are doing.

Role play
Learning objectives:
- Learning medical vocabulary
- Speaking and asking for information
Instructions for this exercise
Print and laminate the game cards, available in our resources.
Divide the students into pairs. One will be a patient and the other the doctor.
The patient pics a symptom card and a surprise card, the latter is to be kept secret. The doctor picks one doctor card and keeps it secret.
Tip: You can review vocabulary and useful expressions or questions before the execise begins.
The pairs begin a conversation. The patient explains the problem in the card trying not to read it aloud word by word.
The doctor asks questions like:
- What seems to be the problem?
- How long have you felt this
- Does it hurt here?
Both players must include all the information from their cards.
Earning points:
Each pair earns points by completing tasks
- Use a new vocabulary word: one point
- Ask a follow-up question: one point
- Explain something without using your first language: two points
- Successfully complete the surprise challenge: two points
- Keep the conversation going for one full minute: three points
Lääkärin seikkailu
Tietävätkö opiskelijasi, mitä lääkärinkäynnillä tapahtuu ja mitä siellä kannattaa odottaa? Osaavatko he kertoa, mikä heitä vaivaa, ja pyytää tarvittaessa apua?
Tämä harjoitus auttaa opiskelijoita harjoittelemaan lääkärikäynnillä tarvittavia taitoja. Harjoituksessa opiskelijat roolipelaavat lääkäreitä ja potilaita pareittain, harjoittelevat tärkeää sanastoa ja pitävät hauskaa yllätyskorttien tuomien käänteiden avulla.
Kierroksien aikana eniten haasteita suorittanut pari voittaa.

- Mikä on vaivana?
- Kuinka kauan oire on kestänyt?
- Sattuuko täältä?
Keskustelussa pitää ilmetä molempien pelaajien korteissa olevat tiedot.
Pisteiden saaminen:
Jokainen pari saa pisteitä suorittamalla tehtäviä.
- Käytä uutta sanastoa: Yksi piste
- Kysy jatkokysymys: Yksi piste
- Kuvaile jotain ilman, että käytät äidinkieltäsi: Kaksi pistettä
- Suorita yllätyskortin haaste onnistuneesti: Kaksi pistettä
- Jatka keskustelua yhden minuutin ajan: Kolme pistettä
Arztbesuch

Punkte sammeln:
Jedes Paar sammelt Punkte, indem es Aufgaben erfüllt
- Verwenden einer neuen Vokabel: Ein Punkt
- Folgefrage stellen: Ein Punkt
